I change my mind, this is now my favorite book of 2019. The Last Days of Jack Sparks is a book "written" by Jack Sparks himself, a snarky internet fame with hidden motivations. He sets out to write a book about the supernatural and bites off way more than he can chew.
I've read so many reviews of this book saying they couldn't stand Jack Sparks, his personality, his demeanor, and that this book was difficult to get through because of that. I felt the exact opposite. Jack Sparks' attitude provided comic relief from everything going on in his world. When something terrifying is happening, he makes a joke out of it, and it's kind of his way of reverting inward and trying to run away from things. The story has very gruesome moments, but during those moments, I was kind of feeling sick but then two seconds later I'm also laughing my head off because of something Jack says. In the end, I related to him so much and felt pain for him. My request to anyone who says they put this book down because of his personality, is to keep reading. Because, the end is well worth his aggravation. Actually, the only character I hated was his brother, Alistair. Without going into too much detail, I believe everything Jack says Alistair put him through, and his little additions and tidbits at the bottom of the page got extremely annoying for me.
Overall, this book gave me pure enjoyment. I couldn't wait to pick it back up and find out what happened. It left cliff hangers at the end of each chapter that made me say "Okay, one more." Even though it was already 1 AM. It turns out to be this thoughtful, amazing book at the end when everything is wrapping up, and everything you think you know about this book is a lie. I would recommend this one to anyone, even those who don't love horror because the underlying story is simply beautiful.
